Modern

ABA, born Sebastien Sabatier-Curial in 1972 in Nimes, grew up in a small town in the south of France where art was not part of everyday life. It wasn’t until the age of 16 that Saba discovered dance, at a doctor’s suggestion, following a severe accident when he was 14. After graduating from university as a horticulture expert, Saba auditioned for the Rosella Hightower Dance School in Cannes, becoming a company member for their modern productions. At the same time, he studied voice at the Conservatory of Music, acting at ERAC, and directed and sang in a cabaret. While on tour in Europe, the Martha Graham Dance Ensemble offered Saba a scholarship to study in New York City.

In August 1996, Saba joined the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance and six months later became a member of the Martha Graham Dance Ensemble, remaining until May 2000. He was also a dancer and rehearsal assistant with the Pearl Lang Dance Theater from January 1997 through September 2001. In addition, Saba has performed with the Sophie Maslow Dance Theater, Richard Move, Nice Opera, and Dominique Deroo Dance Theater.

Saba is the founder and director of Saba Dance Theater. He is currently on the faculty of Ballet Arts, Peridance Center, American Dance and Drama Studio, Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance and PMT Studios.
