AIKO MATSUI is a native of Osaka, Japan. She trained at Laban Center in London specializing in Modern Dance, Contemporary, Choreography, Contact Improvisation, and Somatic Movement. Since 2004 she had continued her training in New York City at Ballet Arts and Peridance. Maiko has danced professionally with several artists including Blue Muse Dance and VISIONS Contemporary Ballet Company. She is currently a principal dancer for Urban Wash Dance Company and a founding member of Codice Rosso Theater. Maiko is certified as a Gyrokinesis® and Gyrotonic® Instructor in which she studied under Young-ah Kim. Training and teaching Gyrotonic® Methodology has shaped her philosophies of body awareness, fluidity, and inner balance. With over eleven years combined experience as a dancer and Gyrotonics® instructor, Maiko has embodied these elements to create a new awareness of understanding the body’s potential, increasing strength, an releasing energy. She looks forward to sharing her passion for movement and exploring the body’s endless potential with you.
