MONDAY WEDNESDAY The basic and intermediate yoga asanas (poses) will be practiced with a focus on those that are particularly helpful for dancers. The class will begin with sun salutations to warm-up and connect with the breath as a source for movement. The class will then move through a flowing sequence of standing postures leading into seated hip openers, inversions, back bends and finish with deep relaxation. We will talk about the alignment of the postures and their effects on the body. We will listen to our breath as we work to strengthen our muscles, align our bones, and focus the body’s energy. |
Yoga
In New York City, she has performed with Imago Dance Theater, Silver-Brown Dance and MayDance at downtown venues such as St. Mark’s Church and Joyce Soho, as well as around the Northeast and Canada. While in New York Maggie Thom fortuitously discovered Yoga, which she began practicing regularly at Om Yoga. In 2003, she completed Om’s 200 Hour Teacher Training Course, with Jennifer Brilliant and Dana Strong. Since then she has taught vinyasa yoga to adults, children, professional dancers and dance students. She finds it particularly exciting to teach dancers as yoga has helped her as a dancer--to find strength, healthy alignment, and a sense of presence and breath while rehearsing, performing and auditioning. |
