Ballet

ORNEL CRABTREE trained on full scholarship at both the San Francisco Ballet School and the School of American Ballet. Former teachers include Anatole Vilzak, Stanley Williams, Alexandria Danilova, Andrei Kamarevsky and extensively with Mme. Gabriella Darvash.

He was a member of New York City Ballet for 10 years where he worked closely with George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins. Some of his principal roles with the company included Balanchine Serenade, Vienna Waltzes, The Nutcracker and Robbin Dances at a Gathering, In the Night, and The Goldberg Variations. Mr. Crabtree toured with the NYCB nationally and internationally as well as performing on television in PBS Dance in America series and Live from Lincoln Center broadcasts.

He is a former principal dancer with the Miami City Ballet and the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago. As a principal guest artist, he has performed numerous classical roles in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Roles have been created on Mr. Crabtree by Lambros Lambro, Peter Martins, Domy Reiter-Soffer, Margo Sappington, and Stanton Welch. He has performed on Broadway as the Slavemaster/Solo Dancer in Phantom of the Opera.

Mr. Crabtree is a former adjunct professor of dance at Marymount Manhattan College and faculty member with Broadway Dance Center. He is a current member of the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science.
